2020 Olympics Will Bump Comiket to Golden Week

By news+feed@crunchyroll.com

When it was announced that Tokyo's Summer 2020 Olympic Games would be housed in the iconic Tokyo Big Sight, fans immediately became concerned, as both the games and summer's Comic Market are held during August. Today, it's been confirmed that summer 2020's Comiket will be bumped earlier in the year -- to Golden Week, specifically.

With more than 500,000 fans visiting the event during its summer and winter stagings, Comiket is the world's biggest doujin market. But with 60% of Tokyo Big Sight being taken up with the Olympics, it was already unlikely that the two events would be able to coexist.

In light of this, the summer 2020 Comiket will be bumped to late April, during Golden Week.

The rescheduled Comiket will be held as part of a project tentatively titled "Doujin Japan 2020," which will include seven other organizations holding doujin markets and comic pop-ups. More information, including dates, will be announced in the near future.

The Comikets throughout 2018 and 2019 are expected to take place during their usual dates.
