The Kitaro Kousaka (Nasu: Summer in Andalusia)-directed film opened in 215 theaters across Japan on September 21, 2018, and ranked first and second in Filmmark and Pia's first day satisfaction rankings, respectively. Though it has never ranked in the weekly top 10 since its opening, the film's critical reception by the audience and critics has been very high. Even in its fourth weekend, 95 of the 215 theaters still sold more tickets than the previous weekend. It has earned 200 million yen on 168,000 admission in 24 days, and more theaters will be newly added from this weekend.

The novel series was published from Kodansha's children novel imprint Aoitori Bunko for 20 volumes
