Original “Boogiepop” Artist Surprised by “Boogiepop” Key Visual

By news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Boogiepop illustrator Kouji Ogata was apparently as surprised by the new Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh key visual as the rest of us. Fortunately, things have been squared away.

Back in March, the artist posted a series of (now deleted) tweets expressing his surprise not only at the key visual, but at the character designs in general. Apparently, several documents he was meant to approve never arrived, and progress was made on the animated adaptation without his input.

Kadokawa has since worked things out with the artist to everyone's satisfaction, and shared a public apology. Additionally, they have addressed apparent rumors that director Shingo Natsume resigned or was fired over the issue: neither is true.

Ogata has stated publicly that he will support the project from the standpoint of the original illustrator.

Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh will air later this year.
